The Cycle of Divorce

Back to School time always seems to spur people to action, much the same way Spring Cleaning and the start of the New Year warrant the need to change. The cycle of divorce has begun and will travel along at a steady pace usually until the start of the holidays. While these cycles tend to remain constant I am continually amazed by the complacency in which some people, women especially live their lives. Younger women continue to sit in my office without benefit of a formal education or technical skill and claim ignorance of their household finances. Often times they are not even ashamed of their ignorance stating that they enjoyed being "taken care of." Sadly I feel we as a generation have still not evolved. Even in this day where we almost had a Presidential Female candidate and indeed have a Vice Presidential Female candidate many women are still content to remain in the shadows of their husbands. Choosing to stay at home to raise your children is not mutually exclusive with a women's right to be informed of the finances of her household.
Although the candidates clearly are mavericks raising children and working as some of us indeed do it is not a choice made by all women. Choices are what this election is all about. It is also what distinguishes women who divorce successfully, they are better informed about their finances. As the female candidates take center stage and tell us what they will do for us once they ascend to Washington perhaps we can ask them to tell us the secrets to their successful career rise. I venture to bet that they are well informed as to their businesses and finances and in fact chances are they were the architects of their financial portfolio's or at the very least active participants in creating same. Shooting a moose may in fact be one of Palin's claims to fame but I'm sure if she ever wanted to dump "the first dude" he would have more to worry about than her fire arm abilities. Women need to take what they can from the candidates and at least stretch themselves and become better informed.
(By the way the picture of Palin and her child next to the dead moose sickens me....as a mother and humanitarian)
